Measuring the water loss of leaves as a function of time gives a good idea about the water retention capacity of the plants. The figure illustrates that, compared to greenhouse grown plants, tissue culture plants have a poorly developed water retention capacity. By decreasing the RH in the container to 75% the water loss curve follows a pattern closer to that of the greenhouse plants. This improved water control is due to better functioning stomata.
