Fusion product selection


Selection procedures are generally of two types:
Visual selection: This technique is restricted to the fusion of colorless protoplasts with "colored protoplasts. It may be possible to attach a fluorescent label to the membranes of the parent protoplast and separate by means of fluorescent cell sorting
Biochemical selection: Somatic hybrids can be selected by using a medium to encourage selective growth. Another method involves the use of biochemical mutants and a selection of somatic hybrids by a form of complementation.
