Blocking of ethylene action

Ethylene action can be blocked by using silver-ions (Ag ⁺) applied in various forms. It is proposed that silver-ions interfere with the ethylene receptor. Ethylene then cannot bind with its receptor and none of the actions normally initiated by ethylene will take place.
