HYPOTHESIS

Endogenous gibberellins might act as a 'brake' on the shoot inducing effect of cytokinins. By removing this 'brake' by imidazole fungicides the cytokinins can express their full shoot inducing potential.

Two experiments support this hypothesis:

1. Imidazoles have structure similarities with growth retardants, moreover, in this experiment PBZ has similar effects on Spathiphyllum

2. In a 2nd experiment GA3 inhibits shoot multiplication by BA, and the stimulating effect of IMA and PBZ on shoot induction
