White

It was WHITE in 1934 who was the first to obtain indefinite cultures with roots from the dicotyledonous plant tomato using the same medium. Thus the way to root culture was opened. It was later discovered by BONNER (1937) that the important constituents of the yeast extract were thiamine, vitamin B and subsequently WHITE found that the effect of the yeast extract could obtained by substituting the B-group, thiamine, pyridoxine and niacin instead.
