Differentiation of plants from callus cultures has been often suggested as a potential method for the rapid propagation from a small amount of tissue. But this method suffers from the fact that cells in long-term cultures are genetically unstable. Ball developed an important technique, which was to later become a viable horticultural practice, in 1946. He successfully raised transplantable whole plants of Lupinus and Tropaeolum by culturing their shoot tips with leaf primordia. |
