Pretreatment

Pretreatment of flowers or inflorescenses, containing pollen at the appropriate stage, has been found to improve embryo production in some plants.

  • Temperature pretreatment for 2-30 days at temperatures
    of 3-10°C (Nicotiana, Datura) or 35°C (Capsicum)
    may stimulate embryogenesis;
  • soaking detached inflorescences in water for several days;
  • centrifugation of the anthers at 3-5g's;
  • application of vacuum.
