Purpose |
| The purpose of anther and pollen culture is to produce haploid plants by the induction of embryogenesis from repeated divisions of microspores or immature pollen grains, or to obtain caulogenesis from them and subsequently haploid plants by embryogenesis or caulogenesis. The chromosome complement of these haploids can be doubled by colchicine or by regeneration techniques to yield fertile homozygous diploids. |
